"Samsung will sanitize your phone for free using UV light in certain stores"
Source : Check out the Techradar article. This article came out on March 13th of April. Following an initiative from Samsung to sanitize your phone while visiting their Samsung Experience and Service centers. This service was an initiative from Samsung to limit the reach of the Coronavirus by using UV-C Light.
The service is so far limited to the following European countries
But in the meantime, not to worry, you can also opt for personal sterilizer solutions too.
To the question, can UV damage or harm your device ? The answer is that unlike Chemical cleaners that can corrode the oleophobic coating applied on the screens, UV-C Light won't affect your device which allows you to keep peace of mind.
There is however, like in every thing a disclaimer:
It cannot be guaranteed that UV-C will kill all the germs. (Most studies mentioned 99.9% eradication rate, but this is depending on the device technical characteristics, and the use circumstances). An overall hygiene, and additional precautions always remain welcome. It cannot be said that it will kill specifically COVID-19 but it has been proven by reliable studies that UV-C is an efficient way to kill germs and bacteria.
